Services we provide
There are so many different aspects of life with computers that we can't list all the services that we can provide. However, we have put together a list of the areas where help in most commonly needed. If you can't see what you're looking for, please do get in touch to see if we can help.
We provide a wide range of services to help you with your desktop PC, laptop, netbook, tablet, smartphone and other types of device you have! See the table below for the more common help we provide. If what you need isn't listed, give us a call or send us an e-mail to see how we can help.
In some cases we can provide support over the phone and internet, sharing control of your machine, which means that we don't have to charge a callout fee allowing us to help keep your costs down. (See Remote support)
If you wish to drop your machine off with us rather than us coming to you, please do call before visiting as we may be out on jobs and have nobody to receive you and your computer.
If we can't help you remotely we will do as much work as
possible in your own home or office so that you are not without your computer.
However, with some hardware repairs or particularly troublesome viruses we may
need to take your computer away. In such cases we will aim to return it
within 48 hours, but this can be affected by the amount of work required
and availability of parts. Whatever the case, we will have your
computer back to you as soon as we can.
Quite often it is possible to help you directly over the internet using remote support software.
To find out more, see our page that explains Remote Support.
Over time Windows based computers usually slow down. There are a number of reasons for this including your data getting spread all over your hard disk (a problem known as fragmentation), junk data filling various parts of your system and numerous programs that decide they need to run as soon as you log on rather than just waiting for you to start them when you want them.
We offer servicing for your computer that removes the junk data, stops programs from unnecessarily starting when you log on to Windows, tidies up the data on your hard drive (defragments it) and does a thorough test for any viruses and other malicious programs, removing any that are found. We will also identify and suggest any changes to help improve your computer's performance, but there is no obligation for you to act on these suggestions.
As well as this, we clean out all the dust that accumulates over the months. If dust is allowed to build up over a long period of time then the fans inside can get clogged up and stop working properly. When this happens, the processor and other components run the risk of overheating and burning out - an expensive problem.
If, in the course of servicing your computer, we recommend any new parts or software the cost of these will be extra to the service but we won't add anything without first getting your permission.
Servicing does not guarantee an increase in performance of the machine but it's extremely rare that there isn't a noticeable improvement. Servicing does, however, guarantee defragmentation of the disk as far as possible, removal of as much junk data as possible, prevention of unnecessary startup of programs at logon, a thorough scan for and removal of malicious software and a thorough physical clean.
As well as providing general computer support, Steve is a professional programmer and is able to develop software for you on spec, so if you have a small application you need written, why not get in touch?
Please note: In all the above, our expertise is in Windows based PC systems and we are only able to offer limited support for other systems.
